> UBI we all would get can be made just as useless by printing even more for their projects, making inflation eat up all UBI value
... unless it comes with tax reform, so it doesn't increase the money supply. This is an implementation detail, not an insolvable problem with a UBI.
> instead build strong mutual aid solidarity networks
These are not mutually exclusive, let's do both. Just like campaigning for anti-monopoly enforcement and building decentralised networks.

> the poor are NOT supported in current systems
Poverty is a human-constructed situation. "The poor" would not exist in an equitable political-economic system. Like one with a UBI sufficient to cover the basics of life, for example.

anyone have experience with an insect bite that looks like poison ivy? i.e. multiple kinda suppurating spots, no clear bite? it was not scratched at, a bit mystified at the appearance given zero exposure to the usual culprits for this kind of reaction
obviously i can google this myself but wondering if anyone has ideas
(in urban southern california if this is relevant)
@inquiline It sounds sorta kinda like contact derm? I came back from China once with small itching blisters all up and down my arms, and realized belatedly it was something in the hotel soap causing it.
@spla Sí!!!😅 no sé, jo tot ho faig per intuïció, tampoc em féu molt de cas. Sempre he tingut mòbils de quotidianitat sense haver de pensar massa res. Però mira, m'ha fet il·lusió tornar a veure una bateria.
@Caelumtangi bateria que es pot canviar si cal

I am *so* here for watching people advocate for their favourite map projections. This might be my favourite type of nerd debate.
Thank you, Fediverse.

Y'see I remember deciding as a teenager that Olbers' equal area was best, but I have absolutely no recollection of why.
Just want to let it be known that it is super creepy how the entire country hangs on high-profile murder trials; I am not aware that my fellow Americans even realize this isn't a TV show. It's particularly bad when the trial is infanticide related because holy shit man, I am worried about what y'all find "engaging."
today i discovered utter devilry & clearly satanic enchantments... which now have totes blown the whole "replace the buggered sunroom vertical blinds" infernal quest wide open!

Double Roller Blinds
Block glare by day and shut out the world at night with double roller blinds
my childhood home in the burbs had holland single roller blinds in our bedrooms, which were bland & utilitarian, albeit effective despite a big negative chic factor
today i discovered there are contemporary engineered double roller blinds, & so now i have a fabulous new rabbit hole down which i can merrily tumble, & so which should be good for another few weeks of procrastination at least!

@Caelumtangi el mateix a mi, creia que la sim anava dins com els mòbils antics...

If you're intending to come to our Halloween event you must get your tickets soon.
You are responsible for your own tickets and we cannot guarantee when tickets will sell out so to avoid dissappointment, get them asap.
All the details are in the Fetlife event listing and in our Discord.

> i joined UBi initiatives and engaged in politics back in the late 90s and early 2000s and have followed it since then
Same. In Aotearoa it's gone from a fringe idea promoted by a couple of small groups, to being an idea supported by the last NZ Minister of Finance. It's promoted as serious policy by a party that will most likely have MPs after the imminent election.

Hello. New here, and came for the academic and open-science corner of the fediverse rather than the tech news.
I build small tools, read too much, and like finding out how things actually work underneath, usually the unglamorous end of documents and the software around them.
Ghana, living in the UAE. I would rather follow people than hashtags, so say hello if you work on research tooling or open science.

@davidgerard
There have always been those in FOSS and EFF that go beyond so-called copyleft and want to abolish copyright, design-patents/Registered-design & Patents.
It's divesting copyright from US corporate control & reform that's needed. Reform of USPTO.
Abolition of DRM, DMCA and adding "right to repair" and info for it as basic human right.
Google should have lost the scanning case.
Internet Archive isn't just archiving but acting just like a pirate site.
This is no surprise at all.

Debates on Mastodon about AI & its associated technologies focus, often, on what form the technology takes, whether grim forecasts of a Terminator-like future are alarmist nonsense & how its facilitating data centres are skewing politics & investment.
However, the warnings are getting evermore widespread & I fear that while we debate the plausibility of AI's social threat we'll be overtaken by its actuality.
Things are moving fast, and not in a good way.

@ChrisMayLA6 unmanageable scale is a major motivation for AI development. The unmanageability is generative.
